Paul O’Neill is back inside the booth.

The former Yankees great is working in-person once again for YES Network as an analyst following a year-long standoff last season. He was in the booth at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, when the Yankees suffered an 11-2 blowout loss to the Minnesota Twins.

“So good to be back! Love this place!” O’Neill tweeted on Tuesday night alongside a photo with his on-air partners Michael Kay and Meredith Marakovits.

O’Neill worked from home last season, broadcasting from his house because YES Network had a COVID-19 vaccination mandate that O’Neill did not meet. It remains unclear whether O’Neill got vaccinated. The Network loosened its vaccine protocols in the offseason, according to a report from Newsday’s Neil Best.

O’Neill has been with YES since 2002. He played for the Yankees from 1993 to 2001, and the club retired his number in August. How much longer does he want to go?

“I don’t know, honestly,” he told NJ Advance Media contributor Bob Klapisch last year. “I know I’m under contract for one more season. It’s like when I was playing, take it one year at a time, then we’ll see. Funny thing is, I’ve never considered myself a professional broadcaster. Whether I’ve gotten better, I don’t know. But my approach has been the same in that I will never criticize a player for not getting a hit.

I tell viewers, “baseball is not as easy as it looks on TV.” I had more than enough bad at-bats and bad games to prove that. So I know what a guy in a slump is going through. When I wasn’t hitting, it wasn’t because of a lack of effort. That’s true of every major leaguer.”

The Yankees host the Twins on Friday night.
